Female Pattern Hair Loss in Seattle, WA

Female Pattern Hair Loss

Female pattern baldness, also called androgenetic alopecia, is hair loss that affects women. It’s similar to male pattern baldness, except that women can lose their hair in a different pattern than men.

Hair loss in women is normal, especially as you age. Up to two-thirds of women experience hair loss after menopause, however female pattern hair loss may also begin at approximately 30 or younger. Less than half of women will make it past age 65 with a full head of hair.

Female pattern baldness is hereditary. It’s more common after menopause, so hormones are likely responsible. If you notice that you’re losing hair, see your doctor or a dermatologist. They will be able to determine if you’re experiencing female pattern baldness or another type of hair loss.

Female hair loss is usually an overall thinning rather than complete hair loss on top of the head, a receding hairline may also occur. It’s estimated that 20 million women experience such hair loss. Female-pattern hair loss is the most common type of hair loss among women.

We have a variety of options for women with female pattern hair loss. Thinning hair styling may be a good option in the initial stages of hair loss. If the shedding continues, human hair toppers are a great way to conceal the thinning on the top of your head, without needing a full wig.

William Collier Design offers a safe, supportive environment, and private rooms for our clients who come to us for their thinning hair needs.

"My hair has been thinning for about 15 years.  I spent thousands of dollars putting extensions in my hair for 6 years. It really didn't cover the bald spots and I used messy hair powder.
I visited William Collier in July of this year and met with Judy and her staff.  She showed me different options and after examining my type of hair loss, she suggested a topper, which I didn't even know existed.  I tried them on and was like "Wow!"  I was super excited and scared at the same time, because I wasn't sure about the investment and if I would like it.
I kind of flip flopped while trying to make the decision to go for it and along the way Judy answered any question I had with kindness and
reassurances.  I went for a beautiful Folea topper 12", they colored and trimmed it for me, it looked great!  I got home, my husband loved it!
A few days later I got totally weird about it and thought it was too much of a change, to thick...which is crazy, because I was looking for a solution to my thinning hair, now I had it and I didn't know how to handle it I guess.  I called Judy and she booked me an appt for a week later to come in and chat about my options.  Amanda one of the lovely hair dressers talked with me about how properly attach the topper, because I wasn't sure if I had it on correctly, it felt weird at first.  She shared with me that it was not uncommon women/clients to feel sort unsure or uncomfortable at first She eased my insecurities.  I love it now.  Can't wait to get another one!
Their customer service is top notch.  They made feel so comfortable and free to ask anything and explore all options.  I think it's a great investment in feeling confident and knowing that it's my hair, I bought it, I can tell friends and family or not.  Up to me. I've told some friends and they could not believe it!  Me either!  It's the coolest thing ever!
I'm too shy to show a before pic.
Go see them if you are worried about your thinning hair."
